Shawn M. Strange is a Special Projects Manager currently working on the Texas Application for the National Disaster Resilience Competition.  Since 2014 he has worked on policy development and design for a $3.1 billion Community Development Block Grant for communities affected by nationally declared disaster declarations in Texas for the Disaster Recovery Division of the Texas General Land Office. Prior to his work with the State of Texas, Shawn served as a Program Manager on the national Sustainability Education and Economic Development Initiative based out of Washington DC and worked as a corporate relations associate for the Council of the Americas based in New York City. In his work over the last ten years he has successfully implemented actionable strategies to overcome complex economic and public policy challenges at the local and regional levels, particularly during his project management work in the 2005 for the State of Texas Strike Force responding to the Base Realignment And Closure (BRAC) process. Shawn has published four articles on solutions and innovative policy approaches to urban and coastal resilience. His most recent article, written through a partnership with the Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law in the Journal of International Security, focuses on identifying transnational issues and the mapping of risk and vulnerability across the continent of African. He has presented to various delegations in Latin America and Western Africa on the global importance attached to economic revitalization, disaster resilience, housing, and critical infrastructure policy in both the developed and developing world context. He holds a Master of Science degree in Community and Regional Planning and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from The University of Texas.
